Cushions are the quickest way to bring a new print into a room. A soft velvet makes them a pleasure to sink into, and a sturdy canvas keeps them looking fresh for years.
Here are the fabrics we recommend for cushion covers, and how many you get from a metre.
The best fabric for cushion covers

Decor Velvet Bonded
A cut pile velvet with a bonded backing that keeps the pile stable. Soft to the touch, and it springs back after it is pressed flat.
Cut every piece with the pile running the same way.
“…soft and yummy. The colors are vivid and I love the bonded backing for cushions and upholstery projects.”
How many covers from a metre
Decor Velvet is 135cm wide and every piece is cut with the pile the same way up. Cotton Canvas is 145cm wide, so three covers fit across it.

What is the best fabric for cushion covers?
For soft, plush cushions, Decor Velvet Bonded (345 GSM). For everyday cushions that take hard use, Cotton Canvas (330 GSM).
How do I care for velvet cushions?
Spot clean and blot, then steam from above with a thick towel underneath. Brush the pile in its natural direction to keep it upright.
What fabric should I use for outdoor cushions?
Decor Canvas. Polyester handles damp better than cotton and holds its colour and shape through washing.
How much fabric do I need for a cushion cover?
1m of Decor Velvet makes two 45cm covers with a zip, and 1.5m makes three. 1m of Cotton Canvas makes three, or two with an envelope back.
Can I print my own design on cushion fabric?
Yes. Upload your artwork on the Custom Upload page and choose your base.
