Questions

What is the best fabric for quilting?

A medium weight 100% cotton that presses flat and holds a seam. Signature Cotton is our closest base to traditional quilting cotton, and Cotton Poplin suits small blocks.

Can I print a whole quilt on one base?

Yes, and it is the easiest way to sew one. Every design here can be printed on Signature Cotton, so all your pieces wash and shrink the same way.

How do I mix prints in a quilt?

Start with one feature print, add two or three blenders that pick up its colours, and one quiet near-solid. Mix a large, a medium and a small scale so each print stands out.

Can I change the scale of a print?

Yes. Set the scale of any design from 60% to 200% on its page, which helps when you mix large and small prints.

How much fabric do I need for a quilt backing?

Most backings are wider than one width of fabric, so they are joined from two lengths. Our quilting guide gives the lengths for each quilt size.

Should I pre-wash quilting fabric?

Yes. Pre-wash all your pieces the same way before you cut, especially if you mix bases.
